Inspired by contemporary issues
facing us daily, the culturally conscious oil paintings of Hank Feeley
address the omni-present concept of a pervasive form of conveying
information. The way people receive information today, via television,
the Internet, radio, etc., allows worldwide access to a sort of
shrinking and accessible global village. It is the products of this
"global village," and its contrasts and paradoxes, which Feeley paints.
In a recent work about the way we have destroyed our own environment,
Feeley depicts a barren wasteland of a city inhabited by a man in a gas
mask using a laptop computer, which displays the image of a surfer girl
in a pristine setting. In his post 9/11 works, Feeley focuses more on
the solutions to the dilemmas of his earlier works. Driven even more by
the physical act of painting, than the subject matter, Feeley's pieces
are expressionistic and colorful. The paintings have a tactile nature
that allows the viewer to feel the painting, interact with it, and begin
to ponder its intentions.
