Hands tell so much about a person. They reveal lifestyle, personality, and
individual traits one cannot hide. Teresa Mucha focuses her attention on these
telling extremities in her latest body of delicate graphite drawings. Mucha's
imagery is generally of women whose torsos, faces, or hands morph into flowers
or branches. In this series, she takes a new direction, focusing upon
genderless hands that have sprouted wings. Framed by circular or oval forms,
these monochromatic images feel as if they flew out of a dream. As these
rendered hands float through the air, dismembered from their arms, Mucha's
fascination with magic realism, memorial portraiture, and folk art are manifest
through these intimate, narrative works.
For the past ten years Mucha worked as a master printer for Big Cat Press.
She will open her own White Wings Press before the end of this year. This is
her first solo outing with Aron Packer Gallery, and we are excited to be
working with her during this exciting transition.
